Slezský sborník se řadí k nejstarším odborným historickým časopisům v České republice. Založen byl pod titulem Věstník Matice opavské již roku 1878, přičemž od roku 1892 vycházel jako periodikum. Dnešní název pak nese trvale od roku 1936 (k minulosti časopisu viz zde).
Slezský sborník je tradičním recenzovaným odborným časopisem. Je rovněž evidován v rámci mezinárodně respektované databáze European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences (ERIH Plus). Jeho odborná profilace je odvozena jednak z aktuálních potřeb soudobé historické vědy, jednak z více než stoleté tradice. Profiluje se jakožto fórum pro publikační výstupy orientované na výzkum Slezska ne pouze jako fenoménu regionálního, ale jako prostoru, v němž se prolínaly, předávaly a potýkaly vývojové tendence evropského západu a východu, severu a jihu, tedy Slezska jakožto aktivního faktoru evropského vývoje. Časopis otevírá své stránky také studiím, sledujícím interdisciplinární souvislosti a metodické problémy obecnější povahy.
Na stránkách Slezského sborníku jsou uveřejňovány vědecké studie, materiály, diskusní příspěvky, referáty a recenze nejnovější domácí i zahraniční literatury a komentované přehledy bádaní. Redakce přijímá texty psané v češtině, slovenštině, polštině, němčině a angličtině. Periodikum vychází dvakrát do roka, jeho vydavatelem je Slezské zemské muzeum v Opavě.
Slezský sborník is one of the oldest specialized historical journals in the Czech Republic. It was founded under the title of Věstník Matice opavské (Bulletin of the Opava Foundation) in 1878, and from 1892 it was published as a periodical. It has borne its current name since 1936 (for the history of the magazine, see here).
Slezský sborník is a traditional peer-reviewed professional journal. It is also registered in the internationally respected European Reference Index for Humanities and Social Sciences (ERIH Plus). Its professional profile is derived both from the current needs of the contemporary historical science and from more than a hundred years of tradition. It is profiled as a platform for publications focused on research on Silesia, not only as a regional phenomenon but as a place where the developmental trends of European West and East, North and South, i.e. Silesia as an active factor of European development, intertwined, confronted and were transferred. The journal also opens its pages to studies of interdisciplinary context and methodological issues of a more general nature.
Scientific studies, materials, discussion papers, papers and reviews of the latest domestic and foreign literature and commented reviews of research are published on the Slezský sborník pages. The editors accept texts written in Czech, Slovak, Polish, German and English. The periodical is published by the Silesian Museum in Opava twice a year.
