Vědecké zaměření
• Entomolog se zaměřením na řád dvoukřídlí (Diptera). V SZM vybudoval speciální kolekci dvoukřídlého hmyzu (ke konci r. 2025 celkem 238 904 kusů, z toho asi 211 000 kusů z vlastních sběrů a výzkumu). Výzkumně se věnuje taxonomii, fylogenezi, bionomii, faunistice a rozšíření akalyptrátních dvoukřídlých, zejména čeledí Sphaeroceridae a Anthomyzidae, vybraných fosilních čeledí skupiny Acalyptratae, a také ekofaunistickým studiím společenstev dvoukřídlých skupiny Acalyptrata různých ekosystémů. V letech 1975–2025 objevil a popsal (částečně ve spoluatorství) 3 fosilní čeledi (viz Protanthomyzidae Roháček, 1998, Clusiomitidae Roháček & Hoffeins, 2021 a Christelenkidae Roháček, 2023), 21 rodů a 129 druhů čeledi Anthomyzidae, 1 podčeleď (Homalomitrinae Roháček & Marshall, 1998), 16 rodů, 13 podrodů, 145 druhů a 4 poddruhy čeledi Sphaeroceridae, 1 rod a 9 druhů fosilní čeledi Clusiomitidae, 1 rod a 1 druh vymřelé čeledi Christelenkidae, 1 (fosilní) druh čeledi Lauxaniidae, 3 druhy čeledi Periscelididae, 10 druhů vymřelé čeledi Protanthomyzidae a 2 druhy čeledi Stenomicridae. Díky jeho revizním a monografickým studiím patří dnes čeledi Sphaeroceridae a Anthomyzidae k nejlépe prozkoumaným skupinám akalyptrátních dvoukřídlých v Evropě, resp. celé Holarktické oblasti. Od r. 1996 byl řešitelem pěti grantových projektů GAČR, jednoho grantového projektu MK, 7 interních grantových projektů SZM a spoluřešitelem 1 projektu NAKI. V r. 2019–2023 byl řešitelem a garantem oblasti 4. Entomologie Dlouhodobé koncepce rozvoje výzkumné organizace Slezské zemské muzeum na léta 2019 -2023; současné době je řešitelem a garantem oblasti 4. Hmyz (Insecta) Dlouhodobé koncepce rozvoje výzkumné organizace Slezské zemské muzeum na léta 2024-2028. Výsledky svého výzkumu publikoval v téměř 540 odborných studiích a prezentoval na pěti světových dipterologických kongresech (Budapest 1986, Bratislava 1990, Guelph 1994, Oxford 1998, Potsdam 2014) a celé řadě dalších konferencí.
